Oborevwori To Campaign On Projects Ahead Of 2027 – Aniagwu

Performance-Based Politics Gains Momentum
DELTA State’s political landscape is beginning to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections, with the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori indicating that its campaign will be anchored on visible development projects.
This position was outlined by Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, during an inspection tour of the Delta State College of Health Technology in Ovrode.
Aniagwu stated that the government’s priority remains the execution of people-oriented projects, which he described as a more credible basis for seeking public support.
Ongoing Projects Near Completion
The inspection team, which included Joseph Onojaeme and Festus Ahon, evaluated the progress of the health institution project.
Aniagwu reported that significant improvements had been made since the last visit, with most previously identified issues addressed.
He said the project is nearing completion and would soon be ready for inauguration, marking another milestone in the administration’s infrastructure drive.
Addressing Healthcare Workforce Gaps
Beyond infrastructure, the government is positioning the project as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the healthcare sector.
Aniagwu noted that the facility would provide training opportunities for healthcare professionals, complementing the recent approval of 700 new jobs in the sector.
He argued that expanding local training capacity is essential to reducing dependence on external manpower and mitigating the effects of skilled worker migration.
Statewide Development Footprint
The commissioner disclosed that over ₦400 billion worth of capital projects have been approved across Delta State, spanning roads, healthcare, education, and other critical sectors.
He emphasised that the administration is committed to ensuring that development is not concentrated in specific areas but distributed across all local government areas.
According to him, the governor’s frequent visits to project sites and communities reflect a hands-on approach to governance and accountability.
Campaign Through Governance
Aniagwu framed the administration’s development efforts as both governance and campaign strategy, noting that the governor prefers to demonstrate results rather than make promises.
He explained that project commissioning tours provide opportunities for direct engagement with citizens, allowing the government to remain responsive to local needs.
Due to the volume of projects, he added, some inaugurations may be conducted by senior government officials on behalf of the governor.
Implications for 2027 Elections
As the 2027 elections approach, the emphasis on infrastructure and service delivery is likely to shape political narratives in Delta State.
Analysts suggest that a performance-based campaign could resonate with voters if projects are completed and their impact is widely felt.
For now, the administration appears focused on consolidating its development record as a central pillar of its political strategy.
