Advocate Lecture To Tackle Nigeria’s Governance Crisis As Ughelli Monarch Endorses Event

Monarch, Leaders Rally Support for Governance-Focused Lecture in Delta
Royal Endorsement Signals Strong Backing
THE Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, HRM Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, has thrown his weight behind the forthcoming third edition of the Advocate Annual Lecture Series, describing it as a vital platform for intellectual discourse on Nigeria’s governance challenges.
The monarch gave his endorsement when a delegation from Advocate Publication Ltd, led by its Managing Director and Publisher, Shedrack Onitsha, paid him a courtesy visit to formally present the event and seek royal blessings.
Commending the initiative, Oharisi III noted that platforms that encourage critical thinking and national dialogue are essential to strengthening democratic institutions. He expressed optimism that the lecture series could evolve into an internationally recognised forum.
Focus on Governance Deficits
Scheduled for 16 April 2026, at Wetland Hotel, Ughelli, the lecture will explore the theme: “From Ballot to Patronage: Why Electoral Victory Fails to Deliver Good Governance in Nigeria.”
The theme reflects growing concerns about the gap between electoral success and actual governance outcomes in Nigeria. Discussions will centre on entrenched issues such as patronage politics, weak institutional accountability, and systemic governance inefficiencies.
Organisers say the lecture aims to provide practical insights and reform-driven solutions to bridge this gap and enhance democratic performance.
High-Profile Participation Expected
The event is expected to attract a distinguished audience, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who will attend as Special Guest of Honour.
Other prominent figures billed for the lecture include Senator Ede Dafinone and Olorogun O’tega Emerhor as Guests of Honour.
Renowned governance advocate and international speaker Charles Apoki will deliver the keynote address, while respected academic Prof. Patrick Muoboghare will chair the session.
Additional discussants include Barrister Omemiroro Ogedegbe, CSP Omosetemi Agbede-Zuokumor, and Chief Monday Ogheneruona Itoghor. Veteran journalist Abraham Ogbodo will moderate the discussions.
Platform for Policy Engagement
Organisers emphasised that the Advocate Lecture Series has consistently served as a credible forum for policymakers, professionals, and thought leaders to engage on Nigeria’s most pressing governance issues.
They noted that the endorsement by the Ughelli monarch adds significant momentum to preparations, underscoring the importance of the event within Delta State and beyond.
With increasing public interest in governance reforms, this year’s edition is expected to stimulate meaningful conversations on how Nigeria can translate electoral victories into tangible development outcomes.
