Oborevwori Defends APC Move, Says Alignment With Tinubu Delivering Results

Governor Backs Political Realignment
GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori has defended his decision to join the All Progressives Congress, saying the move is already yielding measurable benefits for Delta State.
Speaking at the party’s National Elective Convention held at Eagle Square, Abuja, the governor described the event as a demonstration of the APC’s expanding national influence and cohesion.
‘Connecting to the Centre’
Oborevwori explained that his defection in April 2025 was a strategic step to align Delta State with the federal government under Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, the alignment has improved access to federal resources and enhanced governance outcomes.
“That bold decision we took is manifesting today. We wanted to connect with the centre, and we have achieved that,” he said, noting that other governors have since followed a similar path.
Improved Revenue and Fiscal Stability
The governor linked recent improvements in state finances to federal economic reforms, stating that increased allocations have enabled states to meet critical obligations.
“Before now, paying salaries was difficult. Today, we can meet salary commitments and pay contractors,” he said, while acknowledging that broader economic reforms are still a work in progress.
He described the administration of President Tinubu as “focused and bold,” expressing confidence that current policies would yield long-term benefits despite short-term hardships faced by citizens.
APC’s Growing Political Strength
Oborevwori also pointed to the growing number of governors under the APC umbrella—now 31—as evidence of the party’s rising dominance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“This is the first time since 1999 that a party has such a number. It shows confidence in the leadership at the centre,” he added.
State-Level Achievements and Security Gains
Highlighting developments in Delta State, the governor cited progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security.
He also noted improvements in oil production, attributing the gains to reduced attacks on oil facilities.
“Delta remains number one in oil production, and we are committed to doing more for our people,” he said.
Call for Continued Support
The governor urged residents of Delta State to support both federal and state administrations, assuring them of sustained efforts to improve welfare and deliver development.
