Communities To Benefit As Oborevwori Approves Key Road Projects In Delta

Infrastructure Boost for Ughelli South Communities
THE Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving the construction of internal road projects in several communities within Ughelli South Local Government Area.
The projects, which will cover Okwagbe, Imode and Eyara communities, are expected to improve transportation, enhance economic activities and uplift living conditions for residents.
In a statement, the commissioner described the approval as a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to equitable infrastructure development across Delta State.
According to him, the road projects would not only address long-standing accessibility challenges but also support local economic growth by easing the movement of people, agricultural produce and other goods within the area.
Community Appeal Sparks Government Action
Izeze disclosed that the road project in Imode community was initiated following an appeal by community leaders during a visit to his family compound in Oginibo in 2025.
During the visit, the leaders reportedly emphasised the strategic importance of the Imode Road, explaining that the route had remained in poor condition for years and had hindered economic activities in the community.
“They passionately appealed for the road’s construction, explaining that it is critical for the movement of people and goods,” the commissioner said.
He added that the request was immediately communicated to Governor Oborevwori, whom he described as a responsive and people-focused leader committed to addressing developmental needs across the state.
Impact on Local Economy and Connectivity
The commissioner noted that the approval of internal roads in Okwagbe, Imode and Eyara would significantly enhance connectivity within the communities and surrounding areas.
Improved road infrastructure, he explained, would facilitate trade, improve access to markets, and reduce travel time for residents, farmers and businesses.
He stressed that such projects form part of a broader strategy by the state government to stimulate grassroots development and ensure that rural communities are not left behind in the state’s development agenda.
Other Strategic Infrastructure Projects
Beyond the Ughelli South road projects, Izeze also highlighted other infrastructure initiatives recently approved by the state government.
These include the construction of the ECN–Udu Express Road as well as the Ekakpamre–Ekrokpe–Usiefrun–Oruwhorun Road.
According to the commissioner, the projects are strategic investments aimed at strengthening connectivity between communities and supporting economic growth across the state.
He noted that improved road networks remain a critical driver of development, particularly in areas where agriculture and small-scale trade are major sources of livelihood.
Addressing Student Accommodation Needs
The commissioner also praised the governor for approving the construction of additional halls of residence in state-owned tertiary institutions.
He said the initiative would help address persistent accommodation shortages faced by students and contribute to improving the learning environment within the institutions.
MORE Agenda Driving Development
Izeze said the approval of the road projects reflects the administration’s commitment to implementing its development blueprint, known as the MORE Agenda.
The policy framework focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security.
While thanking the governor for his responsiveness, the commissioner assured residents of Otutuama, Esaba, Ophorigbala and Iwhreogun communities that their requests for development projects had already been forwarded to the governor for consideration.
He expressed optimism that the communities would soon benefit from the state government’s ongoing infrastructure expansion.
“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has demonstrated that governance must positively impact the lives of ordinary people,” Izeze said.
“These road approvals are not just infrastructure projects; they are pathways to development, economic growth and a better future for our communities.”
