Oborevwori Hails Oluremi Tinubu As Compassionate Leader At Warri Homecoming

Oborevwori Celebrates First Lady’s Compassionate Leadership
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as a blessing to the nation, praising her humility and deep commitment to the poor and vulnerable.
The governor spoke Thursday at a grand homecoming reception held in her honour at the palace of the Olu of Warri. The event drew a massive crowd, with supporters thronging the palace grounds from as early as 7 a.m. to welcome the First Lady, whom Oborevwori called “a humble and compassionate leader who genuinely cares for Nigerians.”
Oborevwori commended her record in the Senate, noting that during her tenure she consistently championed policies that positively impacted citizens across the country.
“We can all attest to how she stood firm during her time in the Senate,” the governor said. “Nigerians are blessed to have such a caring First Lady.”
Recognition of Itsekiri Roots and Public Service
Joined by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, Oborevwori described Senator Tinubu as a proud daughter of the Itsekiri nation whose public service record continues to inspire many.
The governor highlighted that this was her third official visit to Delta State in two years. He recalled her August 2024 visit to launch the Renewed Hope Initiative empowerment programme for the South-South in Asaba, as well as her March 2025 trip to unveil the Free to Shine programme, during which 10,000 professional kits were distributed to midwives to strengthen healthcare delivery in the region.
Oborevwori particularly praised her respect for traditional institutions, recalling that during a previous visit she honoured royal fathers outside the formal programme schedule — a gesture he said strengthened relationships across the state.
Global Recognition and Political Support
The governor also referenced her participation at the 4th National Prayer Congress in the United States, where she received international recognition, describing her as a “global icon” who has represented Nigeria with dignity.
Reaffirming Delta State’s support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda, Oborevwori assured the First Lady that the state remains aligned with the administration’s reforms.
“Please tell Mr. President that Delta stands firmly with him,” he said.
He further used the occasion to outline infrastructure projects in Warri, including the completion of the over 20-kilometre Trans-Warri Road with 15 bridges and the Enerhen flyover constructed by Julius Berger, with plans for further extension.
First Lady Announces ₦50m Support for Women
In her remarks, Senator Tinubu described the visit as an emotional homecoming and expressed gratitude for the warm reception and cultural displays.
She announced a ₦50 million empowerment package for 1,000 women engaged in petty trading within the kingdom and pledged additional collaboration with the state government to support young men.
Reflecting on national unity, she noted the overlap of the Christian Lenten season and the Muslim fasting period as a call for togetherness, urging Nigerians to rise above ethnic and religious divisions.
The colourful ceremony attracted prominent dignitaries, including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, lawmakers, and traditional rulers, underscoring what the governor described as strong grassroots support for compassionate leadership.
