WAFU B Tournament Offers Super Falcons Competitive Edge Before WAFCON
THE Super Falcons will continue their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with participation in the WAFU B Four-Nation Tournament scheduled to hold in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that the tournament will run from 27 February to 7 March 2026, less than two weeks before the commencement of WAFCON in Morocco, which is slated for 17 March to 3 April.
According to NFF Director of Competitions, Ruth David, the competition is part of a deliberate strategy to ensure the team is match-ready ahead of the continental finals. She disclosed that the Falcons received and accepted an invitation from the WAFU B Secretariat to compete alongside three other qualified West African teams.
The participating teams are Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal and Nigeria, all of whom will be using the tournament as a dress rehearsal for the Africa Cup of Nations.
David said the mini-tournament will provide valuable competitive exposure, allowing the technical crew to evaluate squad depth and tactical execution against familiar opposition.
She added that Nigeria’s participation has been officially confirmed, while further details regarding fixtures and team logistics will be communicated in due course.
On player selection, David revealed that head coach Justin Madugu has already forwarded a provisional list of players to the NFF technical department. The final squad, she assured, will be released soon through official NFF platforms.
As reigning African champions, the Super Falcons are expected to use the Abidjan tournament to build momentum and sharpen their title defence ambitions ahead of the Morocco finals.
