NAF Launches Advanced Warfare Training For Officers

Capacity Building for Modern Operations
THE Nigerian Air Force has begun a three-month training programme to equip young officers with skills required for modern combat and information-centric warfare.
The programme was announced in a statement issued on 23 January 2026.
Course Structure and Objectives
Known as the Basic Information Young Officers Course (BIYOC), the training commenced on 18 January at NAFIAM, Kaduna.
The course has 11 participants, comprising Flying Officers and a Pilot Officer selected from units across the country.
NAF said the initiative reflects the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke, DFS, who has identified capacity development as vital to operational effectiveness.
The Air Force noted that modern conflicts increasingly rely on information dominance and perception management alongside traditional combat operations.
Emphasis on Strategic Communication
As part of the programme, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, engaged participants in an interactive lecture on January 21.
He emphasised that contemporary military communication now focuses on strategically shaping narratives to support operations and enhance mission outcomes.
The Commandant of NAFIAM, Air Commodore Isaiah Taiwo, highlighted the importance of communication in achieving operational success and maintaining public trust.
NAF said the training underscores its commitment to professionalism, improved civil-military relations, and sustained operational readiness in the face of insecurity.
