Police, Vigilantes Repel Armed Suspects in Delta
Breakthrough in Anti-Kidnapping Drive
THE Delta State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping and violent crimes following a successful operation that led to the recovery of high-calibre weapons.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team, according to a statement issued by police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe.
Joint Operation With Community Vigilantes
Edafe said the operation followed intelligence reports that suspected kidnappers were sighted along a bush path in Upper Agbarho. Acting swiftly, police operatives, in collaboration with local vigilantes, stormed the area late on 11 January.
The suspects were traced to an uncompleted building believed to be their temporary hideout.
Suspects Escape Under Fire
Upon encountering the police team, the suspects reportedly opened fire in an attempt to escape. Police operatives returned fire, overpowering the gang and forcing them to flee with injuries.
In their haste, the suspects abandoned weapons and ammunition at the scene.
Weapons Seized, Investigation Ongoing
Police recovered an FNC rifle with live ammunition and a pump-action gun loaded with 32 cartridges. The Command confirmed that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the suspects.
