Gov Oborevwori’s Wife Commissions Ughelli Cottage Hospital, Applauds Expanding Healthcare Reforms
DELTA State First Lady, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Tuesday commissioned the newly completed Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital in Ughelli North Local Government Area, describing the facility as a major step toward improving access to quality, affordable healthcare in the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, held on December 2, 2025, the First Lady said the honour of having the hospital named after her was both humbling and encouraging.
“It gladdens my heart to know that my modest contributions are being recognized. It feels good to be home, home sweet home,” she said.
She praised the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Hon. Jaro Egbo, and his team for what she called “a bold investment in the health and wellbeing of the people,” noting that the project aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to people-centered development under the MORE Agenda.
Deaconess Oborevwori also highlighted ongoing healthcare reforms across the state, including the reduction of dialysis fees from ₦75,000 to ₦40,000, the deployment of new dialysis and CT scan machines to government hospitals, and the rehabilitation of 150 Primary Healthcare Centres across the 25 local government areas.
“God will help the governor to achieve more. He is working, and it is showing,” she added.
The First Lady also referenced her philanthropic work through the You Mata Charity Foundation, recalling a recent outreach in Ughelli for children with special needs during which medications, wheelchairs, and assistive devices were donated. She further mentioned a heartwarming moment when over ₦8.1 million was raised spontaneously for a mother of triplets.
Earlier in his remarks, Hon. Jaro Egbo said the cottage hospital was conceived to strengthen the local health system and bridge gaps in access to basic medical care.
“Healthcare is not a privilege for a few, but a right for all,” he said.
He thanked the governor for providing an enabling environment for development and described the First Lady as a source of inspiration whose compassion continues to impact communities across Ughelli North.
Egbo urged residents to take ownership of the hospital and guard it against vandalism, warning that sustainability depends on community cooperation.
Chairman of the occasion and head of the Ughelli North Advisory Committee, Chief Miller Uloho, commended Governor Oborevwori’s “exceptional leadership,” recalling his decisive role in resolving land disputes that once stalled the Osubi airport project. He urged the council chairman to sustain the pace of development.
He further appealed to the First Lady to ensure that the cottage hospital is adequately maintained and supported so it can operate optimally.
Executive Secretary of the Ughelli North Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Tega Ighovo, announced that the new facility is equipped with modern amenities, including diagnostic equipment and an ambulance. He said it is positioned to serve as a referral centre for primary healthcare clinics across the council area.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by government officials, traditional leaders, health professionals, and community stakeholders, all of whom described the hospital as a timely and impactful project for Ughelli North.
