Delta Police Launch Manhunt For Onicha-Olona Chief Over Asaba Killings

By PAULINA NZERUBE
THE Delta State Police Command has begun a full-scale manhunt for Chief Jerry Nkeeshe, the Owelle of Onicha-Olona, and members of an armed group linked to the killing of three youths on 24 November 2025 near ‘B’ Division, Asaba.
According to police findings, Chief Nkeeshe allegedly led vigilantes and suspected cultists—some wearing Army camouflage—to a disputed plot of land in Okwe community along the Asaba–Onitsha road, where they attempted to enforce an illegal quit notice without a court order. A confrontation followed, during which the group reportedly opened fire, fatally injuring three young men who later died in hospital.
Police Commissioner Olufemi Abaniwonda has deployed tactical and intelligence units to track down all suspects, condemning the attack as a reckless act of lawlessness. He urged residents of Onicha-Olona, Asaba, and surrounding communities to assist with information, stressing that no one involved—regardless of status—would escape justice.
The Command has since restored calm in the area and intensified surveillance and patrols to prevent further unrest. The public is encouraged to report credible information or sightings of the suspects through its emergency line: 08036684974.
