NIGERIA’S senior men’s cricket team, the Yellow Greens, will kick off their title defence at the 2025 West Africa Trophy with an opening match against Zambia on Thursday 4 December in Abuja.
The Nigeria Cricket Federation confirmed that the second edition of the regional tournament returns to Nigeria, two years after the successful inaugural event in Lagos where the Yellow Greens went unbeaten and defeated Rwanda by 18 runs in a thrilling final.
This year’s competition will feature Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and newcomers Zambia, who replace Ghana from the maiden edition. After their opener, the Yellow Greens will face Sierra Leone on December 5 and then Rwanda on 6 December.
The tournament will follow a triple round-robin format, with all four teams playing each other three times. The top two will advance to the grand final to decide the champion.
Backed by home support and a rising profile in African cricket, Nigeria enters the tournament as favourites — but will need to overcome determined challengers to retain their crown.
