Woman, 30, In Court For Alleged N1.8m Fraud
A 30-year-old woman, Adenike Lucien, has been arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding a man of N1.8 million. The charges against her include stealing and obtaining money under false pretences. She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the incident happened between August and October 2019 at No. 26 Taiwo Street, Ojota, Lagos. He explained that the defendant allegedly collected N1.8 million from the complainant, Ayobami Monsuru, claiming she would supply granite to a refinery company. According to the prosecutor, she failed to deliver the goods and instead used the money for herself.
The offences, Bassey said, are against Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Under Section 287, stealing carries a penalty of up to three years in prison.
The case was adjourned to a later date for further hearing.
