WaterAid Donates Water Equipment To LASWARCO

WATERAID Nigeria has donated critical laboratory consumables and water quality testing equipment to the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO).
Report indicated that the donation in partnership with Cummins Nigeria was held on Wednesday in Lagos.
The donation will enhance LASWARCO’s capacity to monitor and regulate water quality across the state for the benefit of all residents.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Lagos State, Mr. Mahmood Adegbite, Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, expressed gratitude for the timely intervention.
“This donation will significantly boost LASWARCO’s regulatory activities and ensure water supplied to Lagos residents meets the highest standards.
“Ultimately, this will help in reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases and boost the function of LASWARCO,” Adegbite said.
Speaking at the event, Dr Adebayo Alao, the Head of WaterAid Nigeria’s Lagos Office, emphasised the urgency of strengthening institutional frameworks for water safety.
“What we have done today is a step in the right direction, but more support is needed.
“This intervention is not 100 percent sufficient; it only sets the foundation. We urge more stakeholders to support LASWARCO in fulfilling its mandate effectively,” Alao said.
Mr. Bobo Nwandu, Programme Sponsor, WaterAid/Cummins Initiative, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting access to clean and potable water in Nigeria in line with Sustainable Development Goal 6.
“Access to clean, safe, and potable water is a fundamental human right. Our objective through this initiative is to promote sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene services, especially for vulnerable populations.
“Cummins has committed over one million dollars to this project across Nigeria, with a focus on Lagos and Abuja,” Nwandu said.
Report stated that the donated materials include instruments for measuring critical parameters such as PH, conductivity, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen, along with test kits, reagents, filters, and other consumables necessary for effective water analysis.
It was also reported that LASWARCO is charged with the responsibility of monitoring water service delivery and ensuring the safety and quality of water supplied in the state.
