Warri/Effurun Flyovers Near Completion As Julius Berger Targets March Deadline

Major Infrastructure Boost for Warri–Effurun
THREE major flyover bridges under construction along the busy Warri–Effurun corridor in Warri and Effurun are expected to be completed by the end of March, according to the project manager of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Thomas Haug.
The projects, awarded by the Delta State Government at a cost of about ₦78 billion, form part of a broader strategy to ease traffic congestion and modernise road infrastructure across the state.
Haug confirmed that the flyovers are nearing completion, with construction works progressing steadily.
Enerhen/Effurun Flyover Nears Completion
Among the three flyovers, the one located along the Enerhen–Effurun axis is already about 97 percent complete, signalling that the long-awaited infrastructure project is entering its final stage.
Haug explained that although the major structural works would be completed by the end of March, some additional road works connected to the project may continue for a short period afterward.
He added that the official commissioning date would be announced by the state government when the project is fully ready.
“The flyovers will be completed by the end of March, but certain associated road works will be finalised later,” he said.
Work Progressing on Other Road Projects
Beyond the Warri–Effurun flyovers, the company is also handling other major road infrastructure projects across the state.
Haug revealed that construction work on the Osubi Road project is progressing rapidly and remains on schedule.
According to him, contractors are working at an accelerated pace ahead of the rainy season, which typically brings heavy rainfall that could affect construction timelines in the Niger Delta region.
“We are pushing to complete key phases before the heavy rains begin,” he noted.
Ughelli and Agbor Flyovers Advancing
The company is also recording progress on two additional flyover projects in Ughelli and Agbor.
Haug explained that piling works are currently ongoing at Uromi Junction for the Agbor flyover, while construction activities at Otovwodo in Ughelli are progressing steadily.
He described the pace of work on both projects as encouraging.
Community Support and Steady Funding
The project manager credited the smooth execution of the projects to strong cooperation from host communities and consistent funding support from the Delta State Government.
According to him, these factors have enabled contractors to maintain steady progress without major disruptions.
Also commenting on the projects, the Regional Manager for South and East at Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Friedrich Wiesa, said the company remains committed to delivering quality infrastructure across the region.
He noted that the firm has been able to transform construction challenges into opportunities for long-term development in the state.
Residents Welcome Infrastructure Transformation
Local residents and business owners in the affected communities have expressed optimism about the impact of the projects.
Many say the ongoing construction is already transforming the neighbourhood and boosting economic activity.
A commercial taxi driver, Joseph Eseoghene, and an accountant, Jonathan Ojarikre, both residents of Enerhen, commended the contractor for maintaining a steady pace of work.
They noted that decades of poor road infrastructure had previously limited social interaction and economic growth in the area.
According to them, the completion of the flyovers is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and stimulate commercial activities across the Warri–Effurun axis.
For residents and businesses alike, the projects represent not just road improvements but a broader transformation of urban mobility and economic opportunity in Delta State.
