UPU Badagry Chapter Visits Royal Family
THE Badagry chapter of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) on Saturday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Akran of Badagry, Aholu Menu Toyi I, following his passing.
Leading the delegation, the chapter’s president, Dr. Ovie Edomi, described the late monarch as a peaceful and compassionate ruler whose reign fostered unity within the kingdom. He noted that members of the union had maintained a cordial relationship with the royal father during his lifetime, frequently participating in palace ceremonies and community events.
“The late Akran’s reign was peaceful and impactful. He was calm, understanding, and genuinely interested in the progress of everyone living in his domain,” Edomi said.
He added that the monarch’s life and leadership offered valuable lessons, urging residents of Badagry to emulate his character to sustain peace and harmony in the kingdom.

Also speaking, the union’s secretary, Sir Efe Okoro, emphasized the close ties between the Urhobo community and the people of Badagry. He pointed out that many Urhobo indigenes are intermarried with Badagry families, strengthening their shared bond.
Okoro encouraged residents to uphold the legacy of the late monarch by promoting unity and peaceful coexistence.
Responding on behalf of the royal family, the monarch’s first son, Prince Adeyemi, expressed appreciation for the visit and solidarity shown by the union. He urged continued engagement between the UPU and the royal household in fostering peace within the community.
