THE Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UniCal), Prof. Offiong Offiong, has reiterated the need to integrate security consciousness into Nigeria’s education curriculum at all levels.
Offiong made the call on Tuesday in Calabar during a courtesy visit by the Commander of the 305 Special Mobility Group of the Nigerian Air Force, Capt. Samaila Badune.
According to the vice-chancellor, early exposure to security awareness is critical to creating safer learning environments and fostering long-term national stability. He stressed that security education should not be limited to security agencies alone but should involve all segments of society, including educational institutions.
He noted that UniCal’s Peace and Conflict Resolution programme aligns with this objective, as it is designed to promote dialogue, understanding, and proactive responses to security challenges.
“Security should not be left to the armed forces alone; it is the responsibility of everyone,” Offiong said.
The vice-chancellor further expressed the university’s readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian Air Force in research, innovation, and capacity building aimed at addressing contemporary security and development challenges.
“We are willing to partner with you in areas that require academic expertise to ensure that research outputs are relevant and impactful,” he added.
Earlier, Capt. Badune said the visit was to reassure the university of the Air Force’s commitment to sustained partnerships that promote security, research, and development.
He said the 305 Special Mobility Group remained open to collaboration and the exchange of ideas beyond security operations, particularly in research-driven initiatives that could enhance national development.
