Trump Misses Nobel Peace Prize As Venezuela’s Machado Wins For Democracy Fight
By ANDERSON (ANDY) CLIFF
US President Donald Trump has lost the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize despite mounting a strong campaign for it.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday awarded the prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her “tireless struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy in Venezuela.”
The decision came just days after Trump’s administration brokered a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, ending a two-year conflict that claimed thousands of lives.
Despite global calls for Trump’s nomination and last-minute lobbying by his allies, the committee honoured Machado for her long-standing advocacy of democracy and human rights under Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
