THE Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that all passengers aboard the Warri–Itakpe Train Service are safe following a derailment that occurred on Saturday evening near Agbor, Delta State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, said two of the train’s seven coaches derailed around 7:30 p.m. at Kilometer 212+8m. Preliminary findings suggest suspected track vandalism as the possible cause.
Opeifa said all passengers were safely evacuated to Agbor with no casualties or injuries reported. A recovery team, assisted by security operatives, has been deployed to the site and is working to restore the track.
Train operations on the route have been temporarily suspended for a full safety and security audit. Opeifa apologised for the inconvenience, assuring that services will resume once the route is deemed safe.
