Tompolo Makes First Public Appearance In 10 Years, Launches Delta State Security Trust Fund
FORMER Niger Delta freedom fighter, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, made his first major public appearance in over a decade on Thursday as he launched the Delta State Security Trust Fund at the Government House, Asaba.
The event, presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, attracted top government officials, security chiefs, traditional rulers, and stakeholders from across Delta State.
The Delta State Security Trust Fund, a flagship initiative of the Oborevwori administration, aims to mobilize resources to strengthen security infrastructure, enhance intelligence gathering, and improve coordination among security agencies across the state.
Governor Oborevwori described Tompolo’s presence as a powerful symbol of unity, partnership, and renewed commitment to peace and development in the Niger Delta.
“Tompolo’s presence today sends a strong message of solidarity and dedication to the peace and security of our state,” the governor said.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to working closely with all stakeholders and, in particular, with Delta’s riverine communities so as to sustain the peace that has, over time, fostered development and investment. Furthermore, he emphasized that continued collaboration and dialogue would be crucial in maintaining stability and promoting inclusive growth across the state.
Security chiefs and traditional rulers at the event also commended the governor for proactively establishing a sustainable structure for security funding and coordination.They pointed out that the initiative would significantly boost response capacity and further strengthen public confidence. Moreover, they emphasized that such measures would, in the long run, enhance collaboration among security agencies and promote lasting peace in the state.
Tompolo, who has kept a low profile for years, was warmly received by dignitaries and guests. As Chief Launcher, he pledged his continued support for peace, unity, and economic growth in Delta State.
“Peace and progress go hand in hand. I will always support every genuine effort to sustain peace in our land,” Tompolo declared, drawing applause from the audience.
