National Assembly Prepares for 2026 Budget Presentation
THE National Assembly is set to receive President Bola Tinubu on Friday 19 December 2025 for the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill at a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives. The exercise, barring last-minute changes, will formally commence legislative consideration of the Federal Government’s spending plans for the year ahead.
An internal communication from the National Assembly administration confirms that the President, acting in his constitutional capacity, will address lawmakers at 2:00 p.m. The letter, dated 17 December and copied to top parliamentary officials, also details strict access controls and security protocols for the day.
Only accredited persons will be allowed into the complex after 11:00 a.m., while non-essential staff are to use designated parking areas outside the main grounds. The measures underscore the high-security nature of the budget presentation.
Once laid before the joint sitting, the Appropriation Bill will be transmitted to relevant committees for sector-by-sector examination before it is debated, passed and returned to the President for assent.
