Tinubu, Sultan, Uzodimma, Others To Headline 2025 Nigerian Guild of Editors’ Conference in Abuja
THE Federal Capital Territory is gearing up for one of the most anticipated media gatherings of the year as the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) hosts its 2025 Annual Editors’ Conference on November 12 and 13, 2025.
The two-day conference will bring together the cream of Nigeria’s media industry, top government officials, business leaders, diplomats, and public policy experts to discuss the future of journalism and democratic governance in Nigeria.
According to a joint statement by NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, more than 500 editors from print, broadcast, and digital platforms across the country will attend the event.
The conference will hold at two venues — the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre, Jahi, Abuja.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will officially declare the event open on November 12, 2025, at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall.
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of ThisDay and Arise News, will serve as Chairmen of the conference.
This year’s theme — “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors” — underscores the media’s crucial responsibility in promoting democracy, unity, and credible governance.
A sub-theme, “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027,” highlights the urgent need to restore public confidence in the electoral process as Nigeria moves closer to another general election.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State will deliver the keynote address. His presentation will focus on how the media can promote peace, accountability, and responsible governance.
Renowned lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Awa Kalu, will speak on “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics.”
Similarly, Prof. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, Head of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Abuja, will discuss “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation.”
Day two of the conference, holding at the NAF Conference Centre, will feature discussions on security and technology in modern journalism.
Former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (rtd), will present a paper on “Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities.”
Meanwhile, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, Dean of Postgraduate Studies, Baze University, will explore “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and the Credibility Gap.”
An Executive Session will also hold on the second day, providing editors a unique opportunity to engage directly with government officials, business leaders, and policymakers.
The NGE noted that discussions during the session would focus on strengthening press freedom, enhancing accountability, and promoting policies that support national development.
According to the Guild, the annual conference serves as a platform to discuss national issues, promote professional ethics, and enhance collaboration between the media and other sectors.
“The 2025 Editors’ Conference comes at a critical time when Nigeria faces economic, political, and social challenges. Editors must help shape public discourse in a way that promotes peace, inclusion, and good governance,” the statement said.
The Guild expressed confidence that the conference will inspire stronger partnerships between journalists and institutions, ensuring the media continues to play its role as the watchdog of society.
