PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Emmanuel Sideso Abe I, on his 18th coronation anniversary, describing his tenure as one marked by peace and steady progress.

Represented at the event by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, the president commended the monarch’s contribution to unity and stability within Delta State.

The anniversary ceremony, held at the royal palace in Effurun, brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders.

Air Travel Costs Under Scrutiny

In his remarks, the monarch drew attention to the rising cost of air travel, urging aviation operators to consider reducing ticket prices.

He observed that insecurity along highways had made flying a safer alternative for many Nigerians. However, he warned that escalating fares were limiting mobility and participation in national events.

The monarch remarked that while Nigerians may joke about high airfares being preferable to negotiating ransom with kidnappers, the underlying reality underscores urgent security and transport challenges.

He appealed for policy adjustments that would balance safety concerns with affordability.

National Unity and Constitutional Renewal

The royal father also used the occasion to advocate constitutional reforms aimed at strengthening citizens’ sense of belonging.

According to him, Nigeria must work toward a governance framework that guarantees justice, equity, and fairness across ethnic and religious lines.

“We must unite and build a constitution that assures every Nigerian of inclusion and pride,” he stated.

Observers noted that traditional institutions often serve as platforms for broader policy discussions, particularly on issues affecting grassroots communities.

Dignitaries and Cultural Celebration

The event also featured the public presentation of the monarch’s book, Odyssey of Royalty, which he described as a documentation of his journey and leadership philosophy.

Among those in attendance was Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his Chief of Staff, alongside local government officials and traditional leaders.

Cultural displays and tributes marked the ceremony, celebrating nearly two decades of traditional authority in Uvwie Kingdom while also spotlighting national policy concerns raised by the monarch.
