Tinubu: Judicial Compromise Hurts Public Trust

By TINA TOLUTOPE
PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has admitted that instances of compromise within the judiciary undermine its integrity and weaken public confidence. Speaking at the opening of the 2025 All Nigerian Judges Conference in Abuja, he urged judges to protect the sanctity of their profession and restore trust through fairness, speed, and transparency in justice delivery.
Tinubu said public perception of the Bench must be taken seriously, noting widespread concerns over delayed judgments, integrity issues, and limited access to justice. He stressed that judicial legitimacy depends not only on legal correctness but on the public’s belief that judgments are impartial and untainted.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving judicial welfare, training, independence and modernising court infrastructure, including digitising court processes and strengthening the National Judicial Institute.
Declaring a functional and incorruptible judiciary essential to democracy, Tinubu praised judges for past interventions that safeguarded constitutional order.
Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, in her remarks, thanked the president and called for renewed commitment to integrity, resilience and ethical judicial conduct.
