Three Prisoners Arrested After Child Killer Found Dead In UK Prison
THREE inmates have been arrested on suspicion of murder after convicted child killer Kyle Bevan was found dead in his cell at HMP Wakefield, a high-security prison in northern England.
Bevan, aged 33, was serving a life sentence for the murder of his partner’s two-year-old daughter, Lola James, in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, in 2020. He was ordered to spend at least 28 years behind bars for the brutal killing, which left the toddler with catastrophic head injuries after a six-hour assault.
West Yorkshire Police said officers were called to the prison around 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday following reports of an unresponsive man.
“Three men, who are all serving prisoners, have been arrested on suspicion of murder,” the force confirmed, adding that Bevan’s death is being treated as suspicious.
A Prison Service spokesperson also confirmed Bevan’s death:
“HMP Wakefield prisoner Kyle Bevan’s death was confirmed on November 5. We are unable to comment further while the police investigate.”
Bevan’s death comes less than a month after paedophile singer Ian Watkins, the former frontman of Lostprophets, was stabbed to death at the same prison. Inmates Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, have been charged with his murder, while two others were arrested for conspiracy to murder.
During Bevan’s trial in 2023, the court heard that Lola James suffered more than 100 injuries, including 101 scratches and bruises, with doctors comparing the trauma to that of a high-speed car crash. Weapons were believed to have been used during the assault.
The toddler’s death occurred just months after Bevan — a prolific drug user from Aberystwyth, Ceredigion — moved in with Lola’s mother, Sinead James, days after they met on Facebook.
Police investigations into Bevan’s death are ongoing.
