Tantita Itsekiri Coordinators Condemn Calls To Revoke Pipeline Surveillance Contract
COORDINATORS of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited in Itsekiri communities have strongly condemned individuals calling for the cancellation of the company’s pipeline surveillance contract, describing them as self-serving actors who do not represent the Niger Delta.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the coordinators said those behind the agitation lack the mandate to speak for the region and are driven by personal interests rather than the peace and stability of the Niger Delta.
They expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending the surveillance contract, noting that the decision reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting vital oil and gas assets.
The coordinators also affirmed their confidence in High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), describing him as a competent and reliable leader whose efforts have significantly reduced oil theft and strengthened security across coastal communities.
According to them, the operational structure of Tantita is already inclusive, as coordinators and community-based contractors have been appointed across various ethnic groups to ensure accountability and effective supervision.
They noted that Tantita’s work has improved security on the waterways, curbed incidents of kidnapping, and enhanced environmental conditions by reducing pollution caused by pipeline vandalism.
The Itsekiri coordinators maintained that their communities are fully represented in the surveillance framework and dismissed recent calls for decentralisation or termination of the contract as attempts by individuals previously involved in illegal bunkering to regain influence.
They urged critics to explore legitimate opportunities through federal agencies instead of trying to destabilise a system that is delivering results.
They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Tantita’s operations, safeguarding national oil assets, and promoting peace and development across the Niger Delta.
The statement was signed by cluster coordinators from Ubagboro, Opumami, Obodo, Ugborodo, Deghele, Aja-Osolo, Omadino, Ugbodede, Ubeji, Ugbegugun, Orere, Kolokolo, Okogho, Ifiekporo, Ugbolaja, Orere Special Squad, Egbokodo and Koko.
