TAJBANK Limited has formalised a partnership with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS). The agreement was signed on Monday in Abuja, with TAJBank Managing Director/CEO, Hamid Joda, describing the move as part of the bank’s commitment to ethical banking and socio-economic support for Nigerians.
Joda said the collaboration would help ease the financial burden on intending pilgrims struggling with rising airfare costs. He explained that TAJBank would leverage its digital platforms and nationwide branch network to expand the scheme to the grassroots, enabling prospective pilgrims to save and access funds more conveniently.
He added that the partnership aligns with the bank’s mission to support vulnerable groups and position TAJBank as a preferred non-interest financial institution for those planning to perform Hajj.
NAHCON Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Usman, described the Hajj Savings Scheme as a structured and sustainable pathway for Nigerians preparing for pilgrimage. He said that limited awareness and funding constraints had hindered participation in the past, but collaborations with TAJBank and other non-interest banks would enhance nationwide sensitisation through religious leaders, traditional institutions and digital platforms.
Usman praised TAJBank for its support and assured that the commission would provide the necessary regulatory framework, guidelines and operational backing for the smooth implementation of the scheme.
