SUPER Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade said the Federal Government is yet to fulfill the pledge made to the team by President Bola Tinubu after their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
In an interview with broadcaster Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade confirmed that neither the promised $100,000 reward nor the other commitments, including a three-bedroom apartment for each player, have been fulfilled.
“We have not received our money, but hopefully it will be paid. They have not paid all the promises. We have not received anything,” she said.
Ajibade said the players are optimistic that the government will fulfill the pledge.
Ajibade, who was named player of the tournament, captained the Super Falcons to a record-extending WAFCON title.
Following the win, President Bola Tinubu conferred national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on the players and technical crew.
He also announced the cash reward and housing gifts, praising the team for their “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage.”
The campaign, nicknamed “Mission X”, was aimed at securing a historic 10th continental crown. The Super Falcons dramatically achieved the feat, overturning a 2-0 halftime deficit in the final.
Esther Okoronkwo scored from the penalty spot and provided the assist for Folashade Ijamilusi’s equaliser, before Jennifer Echegini netted the late winner to seal Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title.
