Super Eagles Top AFCON 2025 Scoring Charts Ahead Of Knockouts

NIGERIA has emerged as the most potent attacking force at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, topping the goal-scoring chart as they prepare for their Round of 16 clash with Mozambique.
Official group-stage statistics from the Confederation of African Football show the Super Eagles finished the opening phase with eight more goals than any other team, underscoring their offensive firepower. Nigeria’s eight-goal tally came from just 21 shots — with 10 on target — highlighting a clinical edge rarely seen in recent tournaments.
Beyond scoring, Nigeria also dominated possession, averaging 66 percent across matches — the highest in the group stage — reflecting their ability to control play and dictate tempo. The blend of territorial authority and sharp finishing represents a noticeable shift under head coach Eric Chelle, addressing long-standing criticisms that past Nigerian squads failed to convert talent into tangible results.
Key contributors to Nigeria’s attacking threat include Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and Samuel Chukwueze, leaders in goals, assists, key passes and successful dribbles. Their influence has been pivotal to Nigeria’s dynamic style.
Nigeria’s group-stage dominance contrasts sharply with teams like Botswana, who conceded seven goals and managed just 38 percent possession, illustrating the gap between AFCON’s elite and its struggling sides.
As Nigeria moves into the knockout rounds, statistical superiority positions them as one of the favourites — but history warns that group-stage success does not always translate to championship glory. The Super Eagles’ challenge now is to sustain this level deep into the tournament.
