Super Eagles Captain Bids Farewell To Late Dad In Delta

Super Eagles Captain Lays Father to Rest
WILFRED Ndidi, captain of Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, on Friday laid his late father, Mr. Sunday Ndidi, to rest in their hometown of Umunede, Delta State.
The solemn ceremony, held on 13 February 2026, drew family members, friends, community leaders and football stakeholders who gathered to pay their last respects.
Mr. Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, died on 27 January following a road accident in Umunede. He was later confirmed dead at a hospital in Agbor.
Ahead of the burial, a delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) visited Ndidi in Asaba to offer condolences. The delegation was led by NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi and included executive committee members and officials of the Delta State Football Association.
Dr. Sanusi conveyed the sympathy of the entire Nigerian football family, describing the loss as painful and tragic.
Tributes also came from the Super Eagles camp, Ndidi’s Turkish club Besiktas J.K., and President Bola Tinubu, who prayed for comfort for the bereaved family.
The burial comes weeks after Ndidi captained Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he scored his first international goal and dedicated it to his late father.
