Muslims Asked to Look Out for Shawwal Moon
THE Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has directed Muslims nationwide to begin searching for the crescent moon of Shawwal 1447 AH from Wednesday 18 March.
The directive, issued through the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, marks a key step toward determining the end of Ramadan and the commencement of Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.
According to a statement signed by Sambo Junaidu, the date corresponds to the 29th day of Ramadan, traditionally observed for moon sighting.
Traditional Practice and Religious Importance

The successful sighting of the Shawwal crescent signifies the conclusion of the fasting period and the beginning of festivities marking Eid-El-Fitr.
