Siasia: Foreign-Born Super Eagles Lack True Bond With Nigeria
By FRED LONGJOHN OBEH
EX-SUPER Eagles striker and coach, Samson Siasia, has questioned the commitment of foreign-born players in Nigeria’s squad, saying many lack emotional ties to the country.
Speaking on UTVAfrica, Siasia contrasted his era—when players rose through the local league before moving abroad—with today’s team, dominated by dual nationals like Alex Iwobi, William Troost-Ekong, and Calvin Bassey, who never played in Nigeria.
He suggested most would have chosen European nations if given the chance, warning their dedication to Nigeria may not match that of homegrown talents.
His remarks come as Nigeria readies for 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic.
