SHELL has pledged $2 billion to develop the HI gas field in OML 144, marking its second major investment in Nigeria in less than a year. The project is expected to deliver 350 million standard cubic feet of gas per day by 2028, supporting the Nigeria LNG Train 7 expansion and increasing domestic LPG supply.
The announcement, made through the Presidency, brings total upstream oil and gas investments since May 2023 to over $8 billion. Shell said the investment reflects its long-term commitment to Nigeria’s energy sector and its integrated gas development strategy.
Officials highlighted that the project will strengthen Nigeria’s LNG exports, reduce LPG imports, and enhance access to cleaner energy for households across the country.
With this development, Nigeria moves closer to achieving its energy security goals while boosting domestic gas availability and supporting cleaner, sustainable energy solutions.
