Shell Pledges $2 Billion For Offshore HI Gas Project In Nigeria
By ESTHER McWILLIS-IKHIDE
SHELL has committed $2 billion to develop the HI gas field in OML 144, marking its second major Nigerian investment in under a year. The project, expected to deliver 350 million standard cubic feet of gas per day by 2028, will support Nigeria LNG’s Train 7 expansion and boost domestic LPG supply.
The announcement, made by the Presidency, brings total upstream oil and gas investments finalized since May 2023 to over $8 billion. Shell said the move underscores its long-term commitment to Nigeria’s energy sector and integrated gas strategy.
Officials noted the project will strengthen Nigeria’s LNG exports, reduce LPG imports, and advance cleaner energy access for households.
