AMID growing national security concerns, the Senate has reconstituted several key committees, including those overseeing National Security, Air Force, and National Planning. The announcement was made on Tuesday during plenary by the Senate Selection Committee, chaired by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Under the new structure, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi of Kebbi State has been appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, moving from his previous role as Chairman of the National Planning Committee. Senator Mustafa Musa of Yobe State now leads the Committee on National Planning.
Senator Osita Ngwu of Enugu State, previously deputy chairman, has been named Acting Chairman of the Senate Committee on Air Force following the indisposition of former chairman Senator Akwashiki. Additionally, Senator Shehu Buba of Bauchi State was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Livestock and Animal Husbandry, having recently been relieved from the National Security and Intelligence Committee.
Senate leadership said the reshuffle aims to bolster oversight capacity and enhance legislative response to emerging security challenges nationwide.
