‘Safety Is Everyone’s Business’: Asagba Pledges Support As FRSC Honours Monarch

FRSC Invests Asagba Azinge as Honorary Special Marshal
THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has conferred the prestigious title of Honorary Special Marshal on the Asagba of Asaba, Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, at a colourful ceremony held at Ogwa Ukwu Ahaba in Asaba, Delta State.
The investiture, performed by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, drew top FRSC officials, traditional leaders, and dignitaries from across the state. The event underscored the strengthening partnership between the Corps and traditional institutions in promoting road safety awareness and responsible road use.
A Warm Welcome and Words of Gratitude
Welcoming the Corps Marshal and his delegation to Asaba Kingdom, the monarch expressed appreciation for the honour bestowed upon him. He described the conferment as both humbling and inspiring, noting that it represented a call to greater service rather than mere ceremonial recognition.
The Asagba commended the Corps Marshal for what he described as extraordinary dedication to duty and a demonstrated willingness to collaborate with traditional institutions to foster unity and good governance. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Delta State Sector Commander and other officers working tirelessly to advance the FRSC mandate.
“Our roads in this clime are not always friendly,” the monarch observed, adding that the task of ensuring road safety is both demanding and daunting. He praised the daily sacrifices of FRSC personnel in striving to reduce accidents to the barest minimum.
A Badge Beyond Ceremony
Receiving the badge of Honorary Special Marshal, the Asagba declared that the title symbolises a traditional call to service. Emphasising that “safety is everyone’s business,” he pledged not to allow the badge to hang idly in his palace but to actively promote safe road practices among his subjects.
He assured the Corps of the Asaba community’s readiness to partner with the FRSC in promoting discipline and awareness on the roads. The monarch also offered prayers for the safe journey and continued success of the Corps Marshal and his entourage.
FRSC Commends Monarch’s Leadership
In his remarks, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed described the honour as reserved for individuals of exceptional character, integrity, and dedication to public service—qualities he said the Asagba exemplifies.
He recalled his previous official visit to the palace during the 2024 Operation Zero Tolerance Campaign, praising the monarch’s hospitality and openness to collaboration. According to him, the investiture recognises not only distinguished leadership but also sustained partnership and goodwill between the FRSC and the Asaba Kingdom.
Also speaking, the Zonal Commanding Officer of the Benin Zone, ACM Joseph W. Toby, highlighted the significance of the ceremony as a testament to the enduring alliance between traditional rulers and law enforcement agencies.
The event concluded with renewed commitments from both the FRSC and the Asaba Kingdom to deepen cooperation aimed at enhancing road safety in Delta State and across Nigeria.
