Infrastructure at the Core of Governance
THE Delta State Government has intensified its infrastructure development drive, positioning it as a cornerstone for economic growth and political stability. The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, says the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is steadily delivering on its development blueprint.
Speaking during an appearance on Politics Tonight on Television Continental (TVC), Aniagwu described infrastructure as a deliberate governance strategy under the administration’s MORE Agenda. According to him, the government’s sustained focus on road construction and rehabilitation—especially in rural areas—is already yielding measurable socio-economic benefits.
Rural Roads Unlock Economic Opportunities
Aniagwu emphasized that improving rural accessibility remains central to the administration’s vision. He noted that several previously neglected rural roads are now being rehabilitated or constructed, effectively linking agrarian and riverine communities to urban markets.
This renewed connectivity, he explained, is boosting agricultural productivity, facilitating trade, and improving the overall livelihoods of residents. Farmers and small-scale traders now enjoy easier movement of goods, reducing post-harvest losses and enhancing income opportunities.
Beyond economic gains, the commissioner stressed that these interventions are fostering social integration by bridging long-standing divides between rural and urban communities.
Urban Renewal Projects Near Completion
While rural infrastructure remains a priority, Aniagwu pointed to significant progress in major urban renewal projects across the state. He disclosed that the three flyovers in Effurun and Warri are nearing completion, with work progressing according to schedule.
Additional projects at Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli and Uromi Junction in Agbor are also advancing steadily, further reinforcing the administration’s commitment to easing traffic congestion and improving urban mobility.
He described these projects as critical to modernizing Delta’s urban landscape and enhancing economic activities in key commercial hubs.
Bridging Development Gaps Through Inclusivity
Aniagwu underscored that infrastructure development under the current administration goes beyond physical construction. Instead, he framed it as a governance philosophy aimed at inclusive growth and equitable resource distribution.
By prioritizing underserved areas, the government is addressing historical imbalances in development. According to him, this approach ensures that no community is left behind, thereby strengthening citizens’ sense of belonging and trust in government.
Performance-Driven Governance Builds Confidence
On the political front, Aniagwu maintained that Delta State remains peaceful and united under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership. He attributed this stability to the visible impact of ongoing projects, which have boosted public confidence in the administration.
He argued that governance rooted in tangible results naturally translates into political goodwill, noting that the current administration is focused more on performance than rhetoric.
“The essence of governance is to improve the lives of the people,” Aniagwu said, adding that the administration’s infrastructure drive is directly impacting grassroots communities.
Accountability, Security, and Future Plans
Aniagwu further revealed that strict supervision mechanisms are in place to ensure quality and timely project delivery. Contractors, he noted, are being held accountable to guarantee value for money and adherence to standards.
He also linked infrastructure expansion to improved security, explaining that better road networks enhance mobility for security agencies while opening up isolated areas. This, he said, helps reduce crime and fosters social stability.
Looking ahead, the commissioner assured that more projects are in the pipeline, particularly in rural communities, as the government seeks to sustain its development momentum.
