Ramadan: Goronyo Receives ₦200 Million Cash, Food Support From Minister

THE Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has launched the distribution of cash and food items valued at over ₦200 million to residents and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Abdullahi Mohammed, the intervention is aimed at supporting vulnerable households and easing economic pressures as Muslims prepare for Ramadan.
Support for Households and Party Structures
The outreach, described as part of the Minister’s annual welfare initiative, includes cash donations and essential food items such as rice, millet, maize, guinea corn, sugar and wrappers. The total package is valued at over ₦200 million.
As part of the cash disbursement, ₦33 million was allocated to local government and ward executives of the APC. Local government executives received ₦100,000 each, while some officials were given ₦50,000 each. Ward chairmen across the 11 wards got ₦200,000 each, secretaries ₦100,000 each, and ward executive members ₦30,000 each, amounting to about ₦12 million at ward level.
Other beneficiaries include youth groups, women associations, students, former councillors and decampees. Eight elderly community leaders received ₦500,000 each, while various youth and social media groups also got financial support.
Food Distribution and Institutional Support
In addition to cash donations, three trailer-loads of rice valued at about ₦90 million were shared, alongside sugar worth over ₦28 million and large quantities of millet and wrappers.
Security agencies—including the Police, Military, Civil Defence, DSS, Community Guards and Vigilantes—received 178 bags of rice. Institutions such as the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), the Ministry of Justice and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also benefited.
Call for Unity
Addressing beneficiaries, Goronyo expressed appreciation to Bola Tinubu for ongoing economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He also commended Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and acknowledged the mentorship of Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
He urged residents to use the Ramadan season to pray for peace, unity and development.
