PROWAN Impacts Asaba Residents With Fitness Walk, Sensitization On Healthy Living
THE Professional Women Accountants of Nigeria (PROWAN) Delta 1 (Asaba) has provided useful lessons for Asaba residents through their programme tagged: “PROWAN Exercise for Life (Promoting Healthy Living Amongst Women through Walking/Exercise) which was held today in Asaba, Delta State capital.
The Co-ordinator, Mrs. Tosan Erikpara said as professional accountants, they are aware of their role in inspiring women’s development, saying that the programme by PROWAN Delta 1 Asaba was to set in motion the 2024 International Women’s Day, with the theme: “Invest In Women, Accelerate Progress.”
The exercise and awareness creation accompanied by music blaring from gigantic speakers to draw public attention, took hours, starting from Prof. Chike Edozien Workers Secretariat at about 7am through Okpanam Road, Asaba, with a stop-over at Inter-Bau Roundabout where flyers were distributed to drivers, commuters, passersby and all within sight. Members later resumed their walk which culminated at their take-off point, Chike Edozien Secretariat.
Erikpara expressed satisfaction with the impact of the programme, while she attributed its success to the thorough preparation as well as the large turnout of members who showed passion and enthusiasm during the exercise. She said the high spirits exhibited by PROWAN members helped to draw the attention of many members of the public to their messages.
The messages disseminated by PROWAN members dealt on ‘ending female genital mutilation in the society, ‘ensuring equal treatment for women and female children as well as ‘stopping child abuse, ‘promoting gender equality in the workplace. They also drummed the message that “regular check prevents breast cancer as well as the need to protect and promote mental health, ‘Women 4 Women’, among several other messages that were disseminated to the public.
On their return to the State Secretariat, they were received by the Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Kevwe Agas, who expressed happiness with PROWAN members for their initiative. During an interview with journalists, Agas said the role of accountants, especially the women is well appreciated, while she encouraged the women accountants not to relent in their positive endeavour to promote women’s development in the state and country.
During an interview she granted to the press, Erikpara said PROWAN is a sub-group of ANAN- Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), while she thanked the Chairman of ANAN, Asaba Branch, Mrs. Victoria Chukwurah for supporting them as well as personally participating in the walk, making it a huge success.
Erikpara noted that PROWAN Delta 1 Asaba has more initiatives in store for the benefit of the girl-child, women and humanity as a whole, assuring that she and the members will continue to use their capacity as professional accountants to positively impact Deltans and beyond.
