Pondi Highlights Tantita’s Major Progress In Combating Oil Theft, Acknowledges Fallen Heroes
THE Executive Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief Kestin Pondi, has announced significant progress in reducing crude oil theft across the Niger Delta within two years of the company’s operations. Speaking at Tantita’s end-of-year celebration in Warri, Delta State, Pondi applauded the collaborative efforts of security agencies, host communities, and the Federal Government in achieving major arrests and seizures in the fight against oil theft.
Reflecting on the company’s journey, Pondi paid tribute to the “fallen heroes”—Tantita workers and stakeholders who lost their lives while combating oil theft—emphasising that their sacrifices were not in vain. He observed a minute of silence in their honor, underscoring that the recorded achievements, including a steady increase in crude oil production, are proof of their enduring legacy.
Pondi expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and various security agencies—including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, NSCDC, and DSS—for their unwavering support. He noted that this collaborative effort has enabled Tantita to excel in its mandate, achieving a remarkable 79 per cent reduction in crude oil losses, as reported by NEITI and NUPRC.
He further highlighted Tantita’s key accomplishments between August 2022 and November 2024, including the discovery of over 3,900 oil theft incidents, dismantling illegal refineries, and apprehending vessels, trucks, and other equipment used for illegal operations. Pondi emphasized that oil theft remains a battle of both “need and greed” but reaffirmed Tantita’s commitment to eliminating the scourge entirely.
Recognising the efforts of the Tantita workforce, Pondi praised their courage, diligence, and determination, which have been instrumental in achieving milestones once deemed unattainable. He urged the team to remain steadfast, assuring them that the challenges ahead can be overcome through unity, teamwork, and continued government support.
“As we celebrate tonight, let us look forward with renewed determination,” Pondi concluded. “Together, we will build a future where crude oil theft is eradicated, and our nation’s economic foundation remains strong.”
The event served as a platform to honour excellence within the company and reflect on the progress made in safeguarding Nigeria’s oil resources.
