Police Rescue Kidnap Victim Within 24 Hours In Akwa Ibom

OPERATIVES of the Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State have rescued a man abducted by gunmen at a supermarket in Obotim Village, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Timfon John, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Uyo on Friday, confirming that the victim was freed unharmed less than 24 hours after the incident was reported.
According to the police, the kidnappers stormed the supermarket on Tuesday, seized the man, and whisked him away to an undisclosed location. During the period of captivity, the suspects allegedly withdrew ₦1.9 million from the victim’s bank account and later contacted his family to demand a ₦30 million ransom.
John explained that the rescue followed intelligence-driven tactical operations carried out across identified locations within the state. She said the command leveraged inter-unit collaboration, intelligence gathering, and strategic deployment of operational assets to secure the victim’s release swiftly.
“The victim was rescued unhurt and immediately taken to a medical facility for examination and necessary care. He was confirmed to be in stable condition,” the statement said.
The police spokesperson added that the command has intensified efforts to apprehend the perpetrators, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
She urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities in their communities to law enforcement authorities.
