Police Hunt Keke Rider Who Abandoned Injured Woman At FMC Asaba

Accident Leaves Trader Hospitalised
A foodstuff trader in Asaba, Augustina Oyadi, is battling severe injuries after being allegedly knocked down by a tricycle rider who later abandoned her at a hospital and fled.
Oyadi is currently receiving treatment at the Female Orthopaedic and General Surgical Ward of the Federal Medical Centre Asaba following the accident along the busy Iboza Junction–UBA axis of the Delta State capital.
The crash, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, reportedly left the trader with a serious leg injury that required immediate medical attention.
Driver Initially Offers Help
Eyewitnesses said the tricycle operator—described as a young Hausa man commonly referred to as “Aboki”—initially appeared concerned and attempted to assist the injured woman.
He reportedly rushed her to St. Joseph Hospital Asaba shortly after the accident.
However, doctors at the private hospital reportedly referred the victim to the Federal Medical Centre after assessing the severity of her injury and determining that she needed specialist care.
Victim Allegedly Abandoned
Sources said the rider transported the trader to the federal hospital but quietly left the premises shortly after dropping her at the female orthopaedic and surgical ward.
The unexpected disappearance left Oyadi and her relatives stranded at the hospital without information about the rider’s identity or whereabouts.
Speaking about her ordeal, the trader said she remains in severe pain as doctors continue treatment.
“I am in serious pain. The doctor said they will treat me and that I may have to spend about ten days here,” she said from her hospital bed.
Police Begin Investigation
The victim’s relatives have since lodged a formal complaint at the A Division Police Station Asaba to help authorities track down the suspect.
Although the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, was unavailable for comment at the time of filing this report, a senior police officer confirmed that the matter is under investigation.
According to the officer, police are working to identify and apprehend the fleeing rider.
“We are already investigating the matter. The suspect will be apprehended wherever he is within the state,” the officer said.
Family Faces Medical Burden
For Oyadi’s family, the immediate concern is her health and the growing cost of medical care.
They expressed hope that the police investigation will lead to the arrest of the rider and ensure accountability for the incident.
