Coordinated Security Operation Yields Breakthrough
THE Delta State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on violent crime, rescuing three kidnapped victims and dismantling part of a kidnapping syndicate in the Issele-Uku axis of the state.
The operation, which followed a reported abduction on 16 March 2026, was executed through a joint effort involving police operatives, military personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters. Authorities described the mission as swift and intelligence-driven, targeting suspected hideouts within surrounding bush areas.
Fierce Gun Battle and Arrest
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the search-and-rescue operation escalated into a fierce gun battle between security forces and members of the kidnapping gang.
During the exchange, one of the suspects was fatally wounded, while another, identified as 22-year-old Ahmadu Hassan from Nasarawa State, was apprehended with gunshot injuries. He is currently receiving treatment under police custody.
The three abducted victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families, marking a significant success for the operation.
Weapons Recovered, Manhunt Continues
Security operatives also recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with four rounds of live ammunition from the suspects, highlighting the level of firepower employed by criminal groups in the region.
Police authorities confirmed that the body of the deceased suspect has been deposited in a mortuary, while investigations are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate.
Police Commend Collaboration, Urge Public Support
The Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, commended the gallantry of officers and the collaboration between security agencies and local groups. He noted that such synergy remains critical in tackling insecurity across the state.
He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information, emphasizing that community cooperation plays a vital role in preventing and responding to criminal activities.
Renewed Push Against Kidnapping
The latest operation underscores intensified efforts by security agencies to dismantle kidnapping networks in Delta State, where such crimes have posed persistent challenges.
Analysts say the success of coordinated operations like this reflects the importance of intelligence-sharing and multi-agency collaboration in addressing security threats.
While the rescue of victims offers relief, authorities maintain that sustained vigilance and community engagement will be essential to curbing the menace of kidnapping in the long term.
