THE Lagos Police Command, through its Nigeria Port Authority unit, has announced heightened security across all major ports and maritime corridors in the state ahead of the yuletide festivities. The command said its operatives are fully prepared to maintain law and order on land and sea as activities increase during the holiday period.
Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority, Western Command, Oluwatotoyin Agbaminoja, said security operations have been intensified to protect vessels, cargo, port users and critical infrastructure. The measures include continuous patrols, increased surveillance and enhanced intelligence gathering across Apapa, Tin Can Island, Lekki Deep-Sea Port, Kirikiri and Ikorodu Lighter Terminals.
She explained that marine patrols would extend up to 12 nautical miles to secure Lagos’ maritime trade routes and prevent criminal activities that could disrupt port operations. According to her, additional officers have been deployed to congestion-prone areas to manage increased traffic and ensure smooth movement within port environments.
Agbaminoja also disclosed that the command was working closely with sister security agencies, shipping companies and Port Facility Security Officers to ensure timely response to security incidents. She called on port users to cooperate with security personnel and promptly report suspicious movements, assuring that the police remain committed to a safe and secure festive season for all maritime stakeholders.
