PENGASSAN-Dangote Dispute Cuts 1,100MW, Triggers Grid Strain — NISO

THE Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) says industrial action in the gas supply chain on 28 September slashed power generation by over 1,100MW, dropping national output from 4,300MW to about 3,200MW at its lowest.
In a statement Tuesday, NISO said the disruption caused widespread gas shortages and pressured the grid, but emergency interventions prevented a nationwide blackout. Measures included ramping up hydropower stations by 400MW, real-time load balancing, frequency support, and selective load shedding.
NISO stressed that these actions sustained supply to critical loads and reaffirmed its commitment to grid stability and reliable electricity delivery despite ongoing labour disputes.
