Panic In Delta As Suspected Herders Kill Woman, Injure Man

Deadly Attack in Delta Communities
RESIDENTS of Okpara Waterside and Kokori communities in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, were thrown into panic on Wednesday following a violent attack by suspected herders. A middle-aged woman, Mrs. Helen, was reportedly hacked to death with a machete, while a man, Mr. Edafe Fresh, sustained serious injuries during the assault.
Details of the Incident
Community sources said the attack occurred early in the morning when Mrs. Helen went out in search of cherries. She was allegedly accosted, sexually harassed, and ultimately killed by the assailants. Mr. Fresh, who tried to escape, was reportedly hacked on the head and other parts of his body but survived and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.
Rising Fear Across Neighbouring Areas
The incident has sparked alarm across neighbouring communities including Okpara Inland, Ovu Inland, Eku, and Orhoakpor, with residents expressing growing concern over the increasing insecurity.
A community source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the situation as “alarming,” adding that recent violent incidents had left residents living in perpetual fear.
“The killings have become a nightmare. People are afraid because nobody knows who will be the next victim,” the source said.
Efforts to reach the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, for official comment were unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile line did not connect.
