PANEP Rallies In Asaba, Demands Protection For Dangote Refinery, End To Oil Cartel Sabotage
By PAULINA NZERUBE
THE Partners for National Economic Progress (PANEP), a coalition of civil society groups, on Thursday held a massive citizens’ rally in Asaba, Delta State, calling on President Bola Tinubu to protect the Dangote Refinery from what it described as a coordinated campaign of sabotage by entrenched oil cartels.
Themed “National Unity Against Sabotage: Reclaiming Our Petroleum Sector for the People,” the rally followed earlier ones in Abuja and Kaduna, as part of a nationwide movement to end economic sabotage and promote local oil refining.
PANEP Chairman, Comrade Danesi Momoh, accused powerful interests in groups like PENGASSAN, NUPENG, DAPPMAN, PETROAN, and some government agencies of undermining national progress, describing them as “public enemies.” He declared that Nigerians would no longer tolerate actions threatening the success of local refining efforts.
Momoh alleged that recent disruptions were part of a broader attempt to frustrate the Dangote Refinery, which he said symbolizes economic independence, job creation, and lower fuel prices. He urged citizens to unite in defending local investors and ensuring economic sovereignty.
The coalition commended President Tinubu for supporting local refining and urged him to guarantee steady crude supply to the Dangote Refinery at fair prices.
Other PANEP conveners include Comrades Igwe Ude-umanta, Olayinka Dada, Olamide Odumosu, Omaga E. Daniel, Jabir Maiturari, Solomon Adodo, Adeyeye Olugbenga, Jide Wolimoh, and Fisayo Olubayo.
