By PAULINA NZERUBE
DELTA State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Tuesday applauded Oshimili South Council Chairman, Hon. Dr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, for demonstrating strategic vision, administrative competence, and accountability in managing local government affairs.
Speaking in Asaba through Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme during the council’s 2025 empowerment programme, Oborevwori emphasised that sustainable development requires peace, collective responsibility, and citizen-government collaboration. He described the empowerment intervention as a key accelerator of community development and economic stability at the grassroots.
The Governor urged beneficiaries to deploy the funds responsibly, stating that empowerment transcends the materials shared, forming the foundation for human capital development and poverty alleviation. Chairman Ezenyili earlier revealed that 1,000 beneficiaries received ₦100,000 each under a transparent and exclusion-based selection process that prevented repeat beneficiaries from past editions. He urged recipients to invest the funds in business growth capable of creating jobs for others.
The chairman also announced the distribution of 40 bags of rice to each of the 11 council wards, reinforcing seasonal welfare support, while commending the state government for providing the governance framework for the M.O.R.E alignment. The council confirmed ₦260 million spent on community financial interventions in one year.
