Oscars To Leave Hollywood Home For Downtown LA Venue In 2029

Oscars Set for Historic Venue Change
THE Academy Awards will undergo a significant transformation beginning in 2029, with organisers confirming plans to relocate the ceremony from its long-standing home in Hollywood to a new venue in central Los Angeles.
After more than two decades at the Dolby Theatre, the prestigious awards will move to the larger Peacock Theater, marking the end of an era for a venue synonymous with the glamour of the Oscars.

Partnership Driving the Transition
The relocation forms part of a multi-year agreement between the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and AEG, which owns the LA Live complex where the new venue is situated.
Under the agreement, the Oscars will be hosted at the Peacock Theater through 2039, signalling a long-term shift in how and where the ceremony is staged.
AEG executives say the move is aimed at enhancing the experience for audiences and participants, with the new venue offering greater capacity and modern production capabilities.
A Break from Hollywood Tradition
The decision to leave Hollywood carries symbolic weight. The Dolby Theatre, located along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, has hosted the Oscars since 2002 and has become deeply tied to the identity of the awards.
However, the move also reflects a return to earlier traditions. Before settling in Hollywood, the Oscars were frequently held in central Los Angeles venues such as the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Shrine Auditorium.
Streaming Shift Signals Digital Future
In addition to the venue change, organisers announced a major shift in how the ceremony will be broadcast. After more than 50 years on ABC, the Oscars will transition to global live streaming on YouTube starting in 2029.
The move is expected to expand access to the awards, making the ceremony available worldwide free of charge.
Final Years in Hollywood
Before the transition takes effect, the Oscars will remain at the Dolby Theatre, with the landmark 100th ceremony in 2028 scheduled to be held at the iconic venue and broadcast on ABC.
A New Era for the Academy Awards
Academy leaders say the changes reflect efforts to modernise the ceremony while preserving its prestige as the film industry’s highest honour.
With a new venue and a global digital platform, the Oscars are positioning themselves for a broader audience and a new chapter in their nearly century-long history.
