Orette Declares 2027 Senate Bid, Says Elected Officials Now Treat Constituents As Beggars

UNITED States–based family physician, Dr. Austin Orette, has again declared his intention to contest the Delta South Senatorial District seat in 2027, insisting that he remains the most qualified and most prepared to offer quality representation to the people.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Houston, Texas, Orette described his senatorial ambition as a call to service, noting that his education, global exposure and decades of professional excellence place him far above other contenders.
“If not me, who? If not now, when? I am going to be the next Senator for Delta South. I am well-educated, well-traveled and well-read. With all sense of modesty, I can say I am the best candidate for this office,” he said.
Orette, a physician with over 40 years of experience, lamented that many elected leaders in Nigeria have lost touch with their constituents.
“Those elected treat the people as beggars and nuisance. When citizens raise concerns, they are told to queue for palliatives. I see the people as the solution. I will empower them and help untie the ropes of ignorance and bondage,” he said.
Orette outlined a broad agenda he believes will reshape Delta South and restore public confidence in governance. His priorities include: strengthening education and promoting vocational training, pushing for legal reforms and constitutional restructuring, Improving healthcare and maternal welfare, providing modern tools for artisans, establishing a digital library to give residents global access to information and supporting farmers with modern equipment and extension services.
According to him, “My programmes and legislative drive will change the lives of the people. There will be a flowering of consciousness as we emphasize good citizenship and leadership.”
Orette reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing confidence that the president will secure re-election in 2027.
He insisted that Nigeria must undergo major restructuring to overcome decades of stagnation.
“Tinubu is the best person to restructure Nigeria. We must decentralize power. Abuja produces nothing but consumes everything. Our present constitution treats Nigerians as tenants. I will fight for a new constitution that secures the rights of the people,” he stated.
Responding to critics who question his physical presence in the district, Orette described such views as outdated.
“Change can be done from anywhere. Those who claim to be on ground achieved nothing. Many could not even leave Abuja to meet their constituents. Let them present their achievements,” he said.
The Delta South hopeful urged voters to reject mediocrity and make a choice that would uplift their communities.
“Many are called but few are chosen. This is my third attempt. I believe the people will choose competence and vision,” he added.
