OLYMPICS finalist Ruth Usoro produced her strongest performance of the season at the Jarvis Scott Invitational, recording a leap of 6.65 metres to finish second in the women’s long jump.
Usoro sealed her podium position with a composed final-round effort, delivering the decisive jump under pressure. The mark not only secured second place but also stands as her Season’s Best and the second-longest jump by a Nigerian athlete this year.
Significantly, the 6.65m effort is her longest outdoor leap in the past two years, signalling a return to competitive sharpness as the outdoor season gathers pace. Known for her explosive take-off and technical precision, Usoro demonstrated improved rhythm on the runway and consistency across her attempts before producing the standout jump in her final outing.
In the same event, fellow Nigerian Grace Oshiokpu placed eighth with a best mark of 6.03m, while Oghenefejiro Praise topped the B-category competition with a winning distance of 6.16m.
The results reflect an encouraging showing for the Nigerian contingent, with multiple athletes posting competitive distances. As major championships approach, Usoro’s upward trajectory could prove crucial for Nigeria’s medal ambitions this season.
