Oluremi Tinubu To Lead International Women’s Day In Akwa Ibom

First Lady to Lead Akwa Ibom Women’s Day Celebration
AKWA Ibom State will host Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for its 2026 International Women’s Day celebration on 7 March. The event, announced by Information Commissioner Aniekan Umanah, will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo and aims to bring together women leaders, policymakers, and development partners under the theme: “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.”
During the visit, the First Lady will commission the ARISE Senior Citizens’ Centre along the Uyo–Ikot Ekpene Road. Developed in honour of the late Patience Umo Eno, the purpose-built facility caters to elderly citizens with healthcare, recreational, and counselling services. The centre is the first of several planned across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Governor Umo Bassey Eno welcomed the First Lady and described her visit as a reflection of Akwa Ibom’s national recognition for promoting women’s empowerment and inclusive governance. He also urged women and residents to actively participate in the event to celebrate the role of women in the state and across Nigeria.
The celebration provides an opportunity to showcase the state’s commitment to gender equity and social development, while encouraging initiatives that empower women and support sustainable community growth.
